Conduct your research exclusively with FaceReader Online
Our solution is extremely versatile. FaceReader Online is a useful add-on to the desktop version of FaceReader (read more about it below). You can also conduct an entire research project from start to finish online. Partly, because it is easy to integrate it with your other favorite research tools.
Experiment setup
You can seamlessly implement the recorder in Qualtrics, the most widely used survey within academic research. Most other survey providers will also allow for (at least a) simple integration. Upload your stimuli in FaceReader Online to prepare the project and add it to a question placeholder. For straightforward projects, a survey provider is not even required. Within FaceReader Online you can add simple questions and randomization logic.
Participants
You can invite participants through online links, either created with FaceReader Online or your favorite survey tool. Matching participant data with survey responses and facial analysis is of course possible. For recruitment, there are many options, you can use your own University panel or external panels, for example the platform Prolific is a good one. It balances costs and control over settings nicely. We can assist with recruitment if required.
Reporting
Within the platform you can create charts for easy illustrations. All the classifications (e.g. basic expressions, valence, arousal, attention) can be visualized in the charts. There are several options for visualization (e.g. line graphs, barcharts, circumplex model graph). However, you can also export the raw data and create your own graphs.

Extend your favorite survey tools. To be clear, FaceReader Online doesn’t replace your existing surveys – it’s designed to be a perfect complement to your current processes. Exports
Full control over your data
You can export a temporal data file that includes frame by frame output. This enables you to do complex analysis such as calculating the highest peak 5 seconds (as is done in certain publications). You can also get a summary csv export with the average values. This data file can be easily imported into a statistics tool, such as SPSS or RStudio, to answer your scientific question.

In case you are interested in action units or more complex analysis (e.g. different calibration or summary options), you can re-analyze the FaceReader Online project in FaceReader. There is a smooth integration between the two tools. There is also a benefit to having the data available offline, for faster access and storing flexibility.
Lab studies allow a more controlled environment and therefore generally will give higher quality data (and higher frame rate). Even so, FaceReader Online still provides benefits in pre-testing the stimuli in a fast way without having to invite participants to the lab. Doing a pilot of the experimental setup can greatly reduce errors in your research protocol later on.

Remote lab bundles
The main benefit for Universities comes from remote lab bundles. They offer a high discount on analysis minutes and can be used by the whole lab. With unlimited user accounts, each scientist can manage their own research project. There are also user accounts to e.g. grant students limited access to projects.
